Yes Al Arbour was a great coach and with that being said his philosophy regarding coaching
some of the greatest players who ever played hockey his words were more then just for hockey
Al Arbour installed systems for the Islanders to always be in control of what they do
he had many systems .. strategies but one always stroke a cord with me and like the others
can be used in everyday like
"Even if were down by 2 goals with 5 minutes to play .. still play the system I taught you
otherwise your chickens with your head cut off" .. Al Arbour

6:01 a.m. - Cleland Ice Rink Parking Lot - Fort Bragg, NC
Dawn hasn't quite broken yet as Thomas Greiss arrives at Cleland Rink at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
It's 6 a.m. and the Islanders goalie is on site for his early morning, military-inspired workout with the Cape Fear Warriors U16 hockey team. It begins with the Islanders goalie leading a group stretch.
The group flips tires, navigate over and under hurdles, pull weight sleds and throw a punching bag over their heads until it inevitably rips open on the concrete. Greiss and his team of four set the record for fastest tire flips, taking the heavy piece of rubber to the end and back in 1:21.
The U16 team double as counselors for the Thomas Greiss Hockey Camp, which begins promptly at 7:30 a.m. Early mornings don't faze this crew, they're a reality at the country's most populated military base.

August is the eighth month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with the length of 31 days.
This month was originally named Sextilis in Latin, because it was the sixth month in the ancient Roman calendar, which started in March about 750 BC under Romulus. It became the eighth month either when January and February were added to the beginning of the year by King Numa Pompilius about 700 BC or when those two months were moved from the end to the beginning of the year by the decemvirs about 450 BC (Roman writers disagree). It was renamed in honor of Augustus in 8 BC because several of the most significant events in his rise to power, culminating in the fall of Alexandria, which fell in this month. Lore claims August originally had 29 days in the Roman Republican calendar. Augustus took two days from February and gave it to August when Sextilis was renamed in his honor. August's flower is the gladiolus or poppy, and its birthstone is the peridot. |
