I know a person who works at Radio City Music Hall's
secretarial department

Anti-Semitism Charge Delays a Show on Jesus
Published: May 28, 1993
Radio City Music Hall has postponed the opening of a multi-media show about the life of Jesus after complaints by religious leaders that the show could foment anti-Semitism.
"The postponement will provide the opportunity for a series of meetings to clarify the views which have been expressed," said a statement issued by Radio City Music Hall Productions.
The show, "Jesus Was His Name," was to have run at Radio City between June 2 and 13. There was no immediate word on possible new dates.
The controversy over the $24 million show began when religious leaders charged that it implicated the Jews in the Crucifixion of Christ. Jewish temple priests appear in Darth Vader-style death masks during the production, emitting snakelike hissing noises.
"It is hard to imagine a more negative portrayal of Jews and Judaism than equating the people and their faith with death," said Gene Fisher of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops. Rabbi James Rudin of the American Jewish Committee said the play sent "a potent and destructive message."
The French-produced show is partway through a 30-city American tour that had previously been trouble-free. Its creator, Robert Hossein, will be involved in the meetings planned to discuss the show, Radio City said.
"Radio City Music Hall Productions feels very strongly that this show should not be interpreted in any way which would be seen to be offensive to anyone," the statement said.

One of the more unusual 70mm applications at the Hall was the presentation of the French production of "Jesus Was His Name", a staging of the story of Christ told with live actors working below and in front of a large 78´ x 26´ (22,3 x 10 m) screen which carried a 70mm image both as scenic background and with actors integrated into the presentation. A special projection cabin was installed in the Orchestra of the Hall. The presentation used two Philips DP-75 projectors with 10,000 watt lamphouses. Two prints were run simultaneously, one as backup, from platters at 30 frames per second. While the film tracks carried some of the show sound, the projectors were locked to digital tape decks both by shaft encoders and by time code on the film mag tracks. The performers wore receivers which received cues to enable them to interact with the picture. The language of the presentation could be changed by changing the digital tape which was locked to the film. The use of the 30 f.p.s. film speed (not generally seen since the early Todd-AO presentations) enabled the larger wattage lamps to be used. The digital inter-locking to integrate live and film action made a technically fascinating interesting production.
